Dec 13, 2005 (newstodate): The Icelandic travel and air transportation company TransAtlantic is monitoring the market for aircraft
The preferred aircraft would be a Boeing 757 or 767 for acquisition or on a wet-lease arrangement.
-We are right now assessing the market for a new air service between Scandinavia and the Caribbeans by early summer, 2006, and while the Scandinavian destination has not been settled either, Copenhagen Airport could be an attractive option, says Omar Banine, Trans-Atlantic general manager.
-If we go through with it, traffic will start on a seasonal basis, but the period could be prolonged if warranted by the market.
-Nothing has been decided yet, however, so we are still evaluating various scenarios, he says.
Last year Trans-Atlantic operated a charter route to Mexico, and the company currently operates a special route between Copenhagen and Egilstadir, serving international staff from contractors working on a giant dam project in Eastern Iceland.
