Dec 9, 2005 (newstodate): Seen from an air cargo perspective, Finnair's decision to replace its MD-11 fleet with new Airbus aircraft on the longhaul route network does not make much difference in capacity.
-Depending on concrete sector conditions, our MD-11 aircraft will lift 20+ tonnes, says Timo Riihimakki, Finnair Cargo VP Global Sales.
-By comparison, the Airbus A340-300E and the A350-900 will be able to load about 20 tonnes of cargo, based on the same conditions.
-What really matters, then, is the fact that Finnair has decided to increase its fleet of longhaul aircraft, allowing for more flights to existing destination in the Far East, and the continuous expansion of the route network to comprise more destinations, such as Nagoya and Delhi from next year already, he says.
