Dec 2, 2005 (newstodate): At its meeting on November 24, the Supervisory Council of Baltic Cargo Center, Riga, has given green lights for preparing the expansion of the cargo handling facilities adjoining Riga Airport.
During the next few months the engineering planning of the new facility will be completed, with special attention to truck handling convenience.
After this phase, construction work will start.
-We expect total volumes in 2005 to reach some 3,850-3,900 tonnes of cargo and mail, compared to 3,175 tonnes in 2004, says Olegs Korshe, BCC general manager.
The increase in volumes is expected to gain further momentum after Baltic Cargo Center landed a contract with Singapore Airlines Cargo in September for handling of the carrier's Baltic volumes.
Baltic Cargo Center is owned jointly by GlobeGround Berlin, 45, SAS Cargo, 45, and AirBaltic 10 percent.
