Dec 14, 2005 (newstodate): The production of the AN-124 Ruslan freighter will be resumed with an initial batch of new 15 aircraft.
Behind the decision to revitalise the assembly line are Volga-Dnepr that has already ordered five new aircraft, the Antonow Design Bureau and other partners.
The production will take place at the Aviastar facilities in Russia.
The aircraft will be a new updated version adhering to all current western standards, and with a cargo capacity of 150 tonnes of out-size shipments.
Before the production ceased, a total of 56 aircraft were built, half of which are still in operation.
