Nov 23, 2005 (newstodate): Air Lithuania has now officially discontinued all flights and will declare bankruptcy.
The final blow was delivered by Eurocontrol that refused to render its service to the carrier after its failure to remit payments, as was also the case with several other provider essential to the airline's operations.
Air Lithuania operated routes from Kaunas to Hamburg, Oslo and Billund with three ATR-42 aircraft, one of which was arrested on Monday after a decision by Kaunas District Court.
Another Lithuanian regional carrier, Amber Air, is now expected to step in to fill the void.
As late as on November 1, Naglis Vysnauskas, Air Lithuania owner and director-general, told newstodate: -We are well aware of the rumours spread in the markets by competitors, but we flatly deny that the airline is at all going bankrupt.
Mr Vysnauskas aquired the carrier through a management buy-out following on the retreat from ownership by Lithuanian company Arijus that failed in its bid for Lithuanian Airlines.
Arijus' plans were to merge the two airlines into a single powerful Baltic carrier.
