Nov 25, 2005 (newstodate): Norwegian exports of fresh salmon to the Far Eastern and other markets will hardly reach, nor overtake last year's levels.
-Our main market, Japan, is down by some 10 percent this year, and Mainland China is still at an early stage. Hong Kong is growing, and Singapore and Taiwan are doing well, too, but volumes are still small compared to Japan, says Arild Jaabaek, Schenker Northern Cargo managing director, a leading player in the salmon exports forwarding industry.
-Also we do not expect any major peak traffic as this year's comprises many ordinary workdays around Christmas.
-As the sslmon export fetches increasingly higher prices in Russia than in the highly competitive European market, salmon exports are rather moving there which implies truck operations rather than airfreight, he says.
