Nov 4, 2005 (newstodate): While the Boeing 747 program has been around for decades it still has not come to its end, kept alive by the demand for large freighters.
After three years without any order for a 747-400 passenger aircraft, Boeing has now logged around 50 orders for the 747-400 freighter in its extended range versions, with 28 orders for 747-400s during the period January-September alone.
Only in September, Jade Cargo International, the first cargo airline in China with foreign ownership, placed a firm order for the carrier's purchase of six Boeing 747-400ER freighters.
Nearly 300 Boeing 747 Freighters provide more than half of the world's freighter capacity
