Nov 4, 2005 (newstodate): Since September 01, Exel has set up own operations in Estonia.
Formerly represented by Estonian logistics provider Balti Logistika, Exel, headed by Meelis Koitme as managing director, now runs an own office with seven staff.
-Our first period has of course been occupied with setting up systems and procedures, but we are already now engaging in active sales efforts in Estonia, says Urmo Paluste, Exel Estonia sales manager.
-While incoming business from Exel's global network will dominate volumes during our initial period, we are now embarking on intense sales efforts to generate our own export business, and focus will be on niches including IT and pharmaceuticals that are among Exel's traditional strongholds, he says.
-Competition is strong in Estonia, but as we are seeing the logistics and forwarding market growing by some five percent annually I am confident that we will attract an interesting customer portfolio.
-From the outset our focus will be on air transportation, but road and maritime transport will be added as well. With limited uplift capacity at Tallinn Airport we will rely heavily on road feeder services to European air traffic hubs, though, says Mr Paluste.
