Nov 24, 2005 (newstodate): With the first Aeroflot DC-10F flight from Frankfurt to Moscow and Seoul in November 1995, Aeroflot has just rounded off its first 10 years of DC-10 freighter operations.
The carrier now operates a fleet comprising four DC-10-40F, based at Frankfurt Hahn Airport.
Aeroflot has long been preparing for the replacement of its ageing and little cost-efficient freighters by more modern and economic MD-11F, but this has been repeatedly delayed.
Hopes are now that this will happen after Aeroflot Cargo is corporatised by the end of the year.
The AOC will, however remain with the mother airline until the new company has been duly certified to have its own permits.
In 2004, Aeroflot generated a total of 145,600 tonnes of air cargo and mail, 58,600 tonnes of which was carried on the DC-10-40F freighters.
