OCT 03, 2005 (newstodate): While SAS Cargo has acquired the GSA business that came with Maersk Air from the carrier's new owner, Sterling, the issue of sale of the cargo capacity on the merged Sterling/Maersk Air fleet is still undecided.
Industry sources say this issue was behind the delay of the eventual signing of the contract between SAS Cargo and Sterling that was intended to comprise SAS Cargo's sale of cargo capacity on Sterling's fleet as well.
SAS Cargo confirms that the current acquisition of Maersk Air Cargo does not comprise this asset.
Sterling's cargo capacity is managed by Proactive Airline Services under a cargo GSA contract dating from before the merger of the two airlines.
In connection with the sale of Maersk Air Cargo Sterling said cargo is not part of its core business.
