Oct 18, 2005 (newstodate): SAS Cargo's recent acquisition of Maersk Air Cargo to form Cubic Air Cargo raised questions about SAS Cargo's overall business strategy in the Scandinavian cargo communities.
-In principle, GSA activities are not part of our core business, but it adds to our total package of services, says Kenneth Marx, SAS Cargo CEO.
-We have positioned it as an independent and neutral business unit within our commercial division, but nothing is permanent so if there are arguments for turning it, at a later stage, into an independent subsidiary we would consider doing so.
-We have of course been in dialogue with all the principals of Maersk Air Cargo, and none has aired any objections to our acquisition, nor intentions of abrogating existing contracts.
-We have played fully above-board, and consider this opportunity a means to maintaining the competent Maersk air Cargo staff, as well as optimising the use of our own systems and expertise, and this is a perfect match.
-I expect to see the business volume and customer portfolio of Cubic Air Cargo to double within three years, says Mr Marx.
The company provides full Nordic and Baltic GSA services to Iberia, Qatar Airways, South African Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, and UPS Air Cargo Service.
bmi Cargo is served in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
Estonian Air is served in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, airBaltic is served in Denmark and Firnland, while Finnair Cargo is sold by Cubic in the Danish market.
