Oct 26, 2005 (newstodate): Ranking among Russia`s Top-10 airports, Kurumoch International Airport in the Volga Region is heading towards a major reconstruction project.
Due to significant growth in passenger volumes, the airport has this year contracted the Aeroprospekt Research Institute to work out a comprehensive feasibility study for investments in the reconstruction and modernisation of the airport.
The study outlines the concepts and resources required to develop the airport complex till 2020.
Among other issues, the plan calls for longer runways and construction of a new airport terminal.
Based on the feasibility study, an international tender may be opened.
Kurumoch Airport expects its passenger volumes to double by 2010 already, from about 1.1 million passengers in 2005.
The airport now has two runways at 3,001 and 2,548 meters, respectively, equipped to CAT 1 level, and was the first in Russia to implement satellite approach paterns and visual approach patterns.
