Oct 12, 2005 (newstodate): GPC, the center for perishables cargo handling at Oslo Gardermoen has completed a major expansion project.
-The annual capacity has been tripled to 80,000 tonnes per year reflecting our belief in a continued increase in volumes of Norwegian fresh fish exports, says Aril Jaabak, GPC chairman and Schenker Northern Cargo managing director.
-As part of our business plan we are also targetting an increasing share of the Norwegian imports of fruit, vegetables and and perishables that are now largely trucked into the country. By using instead handling at GPC of the import perishables shipments we can extend the shelf-life of the products, and optimise the utilisation of the handling center, he says.
GPC is owned jointly by Schenker Nordic Cargo and DHL, and the facility is located airside at Oslo's international airport.
