Oct 28, 2005 (newstodate): The integration of Stockholm Arlanda as a new destination in British Airways World Cargo's European Shorthaul Freighter Program brings in fresh capacity to the Nordic market.
The weekly Airbus A300 freighter, contracted from DHL Aviation, has a capacity of 40 tonnes of cargo on 24 maindeck pallets and is a strong supplement to the current Boeing 767 passenger service with a capacity of 10-12 tonnes on four lower deck pallets.
-The aim is not just to serve the Stockholm area, but rather the entire Nordic market when shipments require special speed to market. A special trucking service will feed this traffic into the new freighter, offering a seamless transport via London on BAWC's longhaul freighters or in BA's belly holds. As the shipments will be palletised and security screened at Stockholm, they will go directly on any onward flight, says David Shepherd, BAWC general manager Europe.
Based on price-differentiation, the new service will be a complement to existing products including trucked cargo into Frankfurt and London from the Nordic markets.
