Oct 27, 2005 (newstodate): Continuing its shopping spree, the Icelandic investment group behind Icelandair has further upped its stake in easyJet by 1.2 percent.
The goup announced yesterday that it had bought more shares in easyJet, now holding 16.2 percent in the company.
The group earlier acquired the lcc Sterling and its main shareholder also owns the Icelandic lcc, Iceland Express that is now probably to be sold off, however, to avoid a clash with anti-competitive regulations.
Industry sources see the latest acquisition of shares in easyJet as a sign that the Icelandic group aims at taking full control of the carrier.
