Oct 11, 2005 (newstodate): With effect from October 31, the Latvian carrier airBaltic will start operations on a new route between Riga and Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.
The new route will be served thrice weekly with airBaltic's Fokker 50 aircraft on the three hour-flight.
During the Soviet era Dnepropetrovsk was a restricted area because of its military-industry plants. As a result, even to this day, getting to Dnepropetrovsk has been complicated, not only from the Baltics, but from all over Europe.
The SAS-owned airBaltic already operates direct flights to Ukrainian capital Kiev five times a week, as well as four flights a week to Ukriane's Black Sea port Odessa.
