Oct 28, 2005 (newstodate): Plans for a regional cooperation on air traffic management between Eurocontrol and five Central European countries are blocked by the Republic of Cyprus for political reasons.
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine have applied to Eurocontrol to support the creation of a joint ATM organisation for the region, but Azerbaijan's participation has made Cyprus protest against the project.
Cyprus is vehemently against efforts by Azerbaijan to set up an air service to the Turkish part of Cyprus, which Cyprus considers illegal and offensive, serving an airport which Cyprus claims is "non-existing".
