Oct 31, 2005 (newstodate): The board of British Airways World Cargo has approved the continued development on a new pricing database.
Maintaining GF-X as its prime channel of electronic bookings by the forwarders, BAWC aims at implementing a "pricing machine" that will work behind GF-X.
-We now have an efficient capacity management system allowing us to optimise the utilisation of the cargo capacity available on each specific flight and aircraft. What we are looking for now is a pricing machine that will enable us to capitalise on the value of each shipment accepted on the individual departure, says Keith Packer, BAWC Sen VP Commercial.
-With the database to be developed we can operate a dynamic pricing system correlated to each specific main customer on the basis of a profile entered into the system. The database will allow us to tailor rates according to a range of parametres based on the customer's requirements, availability of capacity and alternative options, and the business relations in force between the two parties.
According to Mr Packer, the database will probably still require at least a year to be implemented.
