Oct 28, 2005 (newstodate): With the coming upgrade of the BAWC European Shorthaul Freighter program, the company wants to enhance its services to the market.
-One objective of the program upgrade is to align our network to customers' demands, which entails adding new destination to the network, and move operations to airports preferred by the market, like moving from Frankfurt Hahn to Frankfurt Airport, and from Bergamo to Milano Malpensa, says David Shepherd, BAWC general manager Europe.
-Another objective is to move closer to realising the target of ensuring that all key European hubs are fed by widebody capacity, like adding Amsterdam and Stockholm, while a third objective is to supplement existing capacity on the mainline BA passenger network.
With the upgrade that takes effect from November 1, BAWC has upped the number of weekly services from 10 to 20, the number of network destinations has been increased from seven to 11, and the system's weekly capacity has been increased by 340 tonnes, almost doubling the current capacity.
The upgraded network will strenghten the options for express services, and will also be availble for blocked-space agreements with forwarders, the company says.
