Oct 27, 2005 (newstodate): The upgrade and expansion of British Airways World Cargo`s European Shorthaul Freighter program builds on a new contract with DHL Aviation.
Phasing out the Boeing 757F services, and responding to the gradual retirement of Boeing 767 passenger aircraft across the European route network, BAWC has expanded its cooperation with DHL Aviation over the A300F aircraft.
-The late shorthaul freighter operations allow for optimised use by DHL of its freighters outside DHL` own operations, and as DHL had slots available for our operations this is a perfect match, says David Shepherd, BAWC general manager Europe.
-The upgraded freighter program means an increase in weekly capacity across the European shorthaul program by 340 tonnes. This corresponds to an increase by 10 percent in BA`s European capacity, but only 0.3 percent increase in the total European available capacity.
-We are thus not overflowing the market with excess capacity at a time marked by falling yields and depressed cargo rates. What we are doing is just to provide and adjust services in accordance with concrete markets needs, says Mr Shepherd
