Oct 20, 2005 (newstodate): Armenia is taking harsh action agains violations of competition in the aviaiton industry.
An Armenian government commission yesterday fined an Armenian and a Turkish company for anti-competitive transactions entailing the voluntary withdrawal from the route Yerevan-Istanbul by Turkish company Fly Air on behalf of Tower Travel company in return for a fixed per-ticket remuneration from the sole remaining operator on the route, Armavia acting on behalf of the Armenian company Bagrat tour.
The fine was set at one percent of each company's profit in 2004.
The government commission also fined Aeroflot for advertising cut-rate, yet sparesely available tickets on the route between Yerevan and Moscow, sources say.
