JAN 20, 2005 (newstodate): Vienna Airport posted a significant growth in air cargo volumes in 2004.
In total, the airport generated 209,625 tonnes of air cargo, up 21.0 percent on the preceding year.
Of this total, 145,602 tonnes was flown cargo, increasing 25.9 percent, while trucked cargo totalled 64,023 tonnes, up 11.1 percent.
The airport benefits from Austrian Airlines' and other operators' strong efforts in the neighbouring markets in Central Europe.
Traffic on passenger routes to Eastern Europe also showed solid development with a plus of 20.7 percent. Vienna International Airport further expanded its role as an East-West hub in European air traffic with 41 destinations in Eastern Europe.
