JAN 11, 2005 (newstodate): On January 10, newstodate mistakenly reported, in a story on Lithuania's air cargo in 2004, that volumes at Palanga Airport had dropped by 50 percent.
Actually, volumes increased by 50 percent, to 62 tonnes.
Although modest in volumes, cargo shipments at Palanga Airport mainly comprise high-value, much needed spares for ships in nearby Klaipeda and other Baltic seaports.
After the airport closed its import/export air cargo terminal on June 1, 2004, Lithuanian transport and logistics company Interekspresas has developed a special service package comprising transiting procedures, customs clearance and letters of guarantee for Air Lithuania and Lithuanian Airlines at Palanga Airport, speeding the shipments to their conseignees.
