JAN 17, 2005 (newstodate): Gothenburg Airport acknowledges the complaints from customers about sustained low quality of cargo handling.
Forwarders increasingly express dissatisfaction with long leadtimes, deficiencies in cargo trucking quality, and general lack of attention to customer needs.
-We might just as well land our cargo at a distant continental airport as it will probably reach us by airline trucking before it would have arrived from near-by Gothenburg Airport even if landing at the same time, says a Danish freight forwarder.
-We are aware of the unhealthy situation, and plans have already been drawn up for a new cargo terminal, says Bjorn Lennartz, Gothenburg Airport marketing manager.
-Unfortunately some 80 percent of all cargo clusters around the same weekend departure times, generating a strong peak further adding stress to the situation.
-We are, however, working hard to find an immediate solution to the problem pending the final decision on the new terminal project that will inevitably require a period of a year before completion. Our customers cannot of course wait that long without losing confidence and patience, says Mr Lennartz.
The airport has 15 weekly Boeing 747 and MD-11 freighter operations, in addition to DHL and TNT freighter traffic.
