JAN 05, 2005 (newstodate): Dnata Cargo has added three new carriers to the Freezone Logistics Centre, bringing the number of operators at its facility in the Dubai Airport Free Zone to 42.
The new customers are Vega Airlines of Bulgaria, Al-Rais Cargo from Iran, and AST Pakistan.
At FLC, airlines can operated a self-handling facility, and gain direct airside access to airside to their aircraft and cargo.
Now generating some 750 weekly cargo flights, FLC is close to its technical capacity and plans to build a fully automated cargo handling centre with a 300,000 tonne capacity.
Dnata had previously doubled FLC's capacity in 2003 by adding over 12,000 square metres of warehouse space, airline office space, and a business centre to the original facility.
-In the six months from April to September 2004, the FLC handled in excess of 51,000 tonnes - a 54 percent increase in volumes over the same period last year. The FLC's latest phase of expansion would again double the size of the existing facility, adding another 20,300 square metres of warehouse and office space, says Jean-Pierre De Pauw, Dnata Cargo Senior VP.
