JAN 13, 2005 (newstodate): A boom in Croatia's civil aviation industry will probably lead to an acute shortage of airline pilots.
Croatia Airlines recruited 14 new pilots in December 2004, with four coming from Air Adriatic.
Air Adriatic acquired two ex-Alitalia MD-82 aircraft in late 2004, and four pilots left for Croatia Airlines. Combined, this will mean a need for 12 new pilots in 2005.
Dubrovnik Airlines purchased two ex-Alitalia MD-82 aircraft and will need four new pilots in 2005.
Trade Air is to take in two Fokker F-100 aircraft in 2005, and will need four new pilots for its LET-410 fleet as four company pilots will be upgraded to F-100 and four foreign F-100 pilots will be taken in to introduce jet operations.
North Adria will reportedly resume LET-410 operations, and will thus need a minimum of four new pilots in 2005.
Summing up, this would mean a deficit of around 24 new pilots for Criatia's airlines by the start of 2005. Adding the 14 new pilots just recruited by Croatia Airlines, this entails a total of 38 new pilots by early 2005.
