JAN 25, 2005 (newstodate): After successful negotiations across the Taiwan strait, direct, nonstop charter flights will carry passengers during the Chinese New Year festivities.
A total of eight Chinese carriers have now applied for licences to carry out the flights.
These include Shanghai Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines from the mainland side, and EVA Airlines, China Airlines, UNI Air, and Mandarin Airlines from Taiwan.
The aviation talks are considered to bode well for continuing negotiations on the opening of regular cross-strait flights, including notably cargo operations.
