SEP 15, 2004 (newstodate): Russia and Ukraine have agreed to resume production of the AN-124 freighter.
An interdepartmental advisory meeting will be held in Kiev this month to set up a project group to define the project and ways of financing the business plan for reviving production of the Ruslan freighter.
The business plan will be agreed upon by the end of November, and the issue wil be confirmed at an interstate meeting in the Federal Agency of Industry by December.
The world market for the AN-124 is expected to increase by 15-20 percent per year, requiring more aircraft of this category to be manufactured.
Volga-Dnepr, with 10 AN-124 aircraft, is today the single largest operator and recently took over an AN-124-300, which is a highly updated version in compliance with the Stage 4 noise regulations.
