SEP 24, 2004 (newstodate): The EU enlargement is boosting the flow of cargo among and to the new member countries, but it is only just starting.
-Located at the Czech border, we serve as the DFDS Transport gateway to the Czech Republic for imports from Sweden, Finland, Poland, and the Baltic states, and we are indeed seeing growing volumes from these markets, says Petr Chocholaty, DFDS Transport manager in Ostrava.
-It is obvious that volumes have been growing since May 1. This is especially the case with imports from Estonia, while the effect is less visible for imports through our gateway from Latvia and Lithuania, he says.
-As to the other markets exporting through the gateway in Ostava, volumes were high already before May 1, so it is still too early to predict what the growth will be. But I am convinced that we will see an upturn, says Mr Chocholaty.
