SEP 22, 2004 (newstodate): European aerospace conglomerate EADS has applied for Russian state permit to take a 10 percent share in the Russian company Irkut.
EADS hopes for the issue to be solved before the end of this year, sources say.
Irkut produces a range of military aircraft, in addition to civil aircraft projects including the Be-200 multi-purpose amphibious jet and the MTA (Multipurpose Transport Aircraft)designed to
lift up to 20 tonnes of cargo, and poised to replace ageing fleets of An-12, An-26, An-32 and similar Russian aircraft.
