SEP 21, 2004 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo is dedicated to seeing its share of the Nordic airfreight markets growing.
BAWC recently ended its GSSA agreement with Maersk Air Cargo and took over own sales in the Danish market as was already the case with Norway and Sweden, while cargo sales in Finland will remain with BA's oneworld partner airline, Finnair.
-With some 60 percent of our combined Nordic revenues generated in Sweden, this is clearly our single most important market, also hosting our Nordic headquarters, says Chris A Nielen, BAWC area manager Benelux & Nordic.
-Norway comes next with 35 percent of our Nordic revenues, while Denmark and Finland share the remaining part. We are, however, keen to see our shares of the individual markets growing and have embarked on a strategy to increase our cooperation with the forwarders in order to secure growth, he says.
-Our target is to obtain the critical mass needed to warrant the inclusion of the Nordic markets into our European shorthaul freighter program. And this would certainly entail a major boost to our propositions and position in the markets, says Mr Nielen.
BAWC now relies on the belly capacity on BA's passenger flights, including Boeing 767 widebody fligths at Stockholm, and extensive road feeder services from each market into BA's hubs in the UK and at Frankfurt Airport.
