SEP 20, 2004 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo has launched its direct freighter service between the London Stansted and Shanghai - the first between the two destinations.
The new service is a first result of the Air Services Agreement reached in February 2004 between the UK Department for Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
-There are 11.5 billion GBP worth of imports and exports between UK and China each year. The UK is China's 3rd largest EU trading partner and has excellent external links to Europe. The launch of BAWC's freighter to Shanghai will help to increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment and position the UK as the long-term partner of choice for Chinese business, said Sue Bishop, British Consul-General in Shanghai at the launch ceremony.
Other new additions to BAWC's freighter schedule are Chicago, Kuwait and Hahn.
