SEP 30, 2004 (newstodate): According to French press reports, Airbus mulls plans for a new aircraft design, called Airbus A350.
The plans were confirmed by Airbus CEO, Noel Forgeard, who however provided few details except stating the the new aircraft would build on technologies developed by the A380 program, use the A330 fuselage, and be powered by a new generation of fuel-efficient and environment-friendly engines as those used by the Boeing 7E7.
This would pose the A350 as a direct competitor to Boeing's Dreamliner, with the extra benefit of offering operators Airbus' unique aircraft family commonality.
