AUG 31, 2004 (newstodate): Swedish cargo handling company Cargo Centre, with facilities at Stockholm Arlanda and Norrkoping Airport, has launched a cooperation with Orebro Airport.
-Cargo Centre will focus on attracting trucked airfreight for handling of imports and exports, strengthening the logistics services at the airport, and offering Swedish exporters an alternative to cargo handling at Stockholm Arlanda, says Hakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport cargo manager.
-In parallel to this, Orebro Airport's own cargo department will enhance its services to ad-hoc cargo charter customers that have so far constituted the main cargo business here, he says.
With this double approach the airport hopes to further increase the volumes of airfreight passing through the cargo facilities.
According to Mr Nilsson, Orebro Airport has had a booming H1, with between 150 and 200 freighter operations during the first six months of the year.
-Also significant is the fact that we have had more large freighters like AN-124, Airbus A300 and DC-8 aircraft, and less numbers of smaller freighters like the IL-76, he says.
Among the biggest customers at Orebro Airport are Atlas Copco that recently chartered two AN-124 for Jeddah, Ericsson, and Volvo.
