AUG 30, 2004 (newstodate): The ongoing construction works at Bulgaria's Sofia Airport's new passenger terminal are facing a delay after a dispute between Bulgarian subcontractors involved in the project and the Austrian contractor, Strabag.
The contracts between the parties are based on fixed prices, and the Bulgarian sub-contractors have not been able to open a dialogue with Strabag on certain snags in the project and the effects from rising steel prices, calling the work to a halt.
Also cracks have been detected in the airport's new runway, and consultants have been called in to verify the situation that may be due to tarmac materials unsuited to Bulgaria's climate.
