AUG 19, 2004 (newstodate): Boeing has been contracted by Bermuda-based Central Air Leasing to convert four MD-11 passenger airplanes to freighters.
The order also comprises three options.
The converted freighters will be marketed by UK-based Focus Aviation.
This is Central Air's second MD-11 conversion order, adding to two earlier MD-11 conversions.
Conversion work begins this December, with the first airplane redelivering in April 2005.
Boeing's Commercial Aviation Services organization will provide detailed engineering design work and oversight of the four Central Air conversions, with Singapore Technologies Aerospace providing the conversion work.
Since the start of the conversion program, Boeing's Commercial Aviation Services has performed more than 40 MD-11 conversions.
