AUG 27, 2004 (newstodate): To attract new airfreight operators, Swedish regional airport in the Oeresund Region, Malmoe Sturup has introduced a new discounted rates scheme.
-We offer freighter operators 50 percent discount for three years on routes to and from new destinations not currently served at Malmoe Sturup, says Bertil Mansson, Malmoe Sturup Airport head of marketing.
-Competition is strong in this market, and we acknowledge the fact that freighter operators that are already settled at an airport seldom change operational base as this implies a comprehensive and complex change in their entire infrastructure. Our aim is, therefore, to attract new operators that are seeking a viable alternative to the well-established cargo hubs, he says.
While the new offer is open to any freighter operator with aircraft at any size, provided new destinations are served, Malmoe Sturup Airport will especially seek contact with operators aiming at the Far Eastern markets.
In 2003, the airport generated a total of 23,733 tonnes of air cargo.
During January-July this year, the airport reports a total of 15,029 tonnes of air cargo, up 14.9 percent on last year.
The volumes and the strong growth are mainly generated by TNT and UPS that use the airport as a regional hub to serve the Oeresund Region including Copenhagen.
