AUG 23, 2004 (newstodate): In its recently published Aviation Fact File 2003, the Icelandic CAA notes a decrease in domestic air cargo and mail by 2.7 percent, and a drop in international cargo and mail by 3.0 percent, year-on-year.
In 2003, domestic air cargo totalled 1,531 tonnes, while international air cargo was 42,685 tonnes.
Domestically, the drop was due to a major decrease in mail volumes, down 48 percent, while the drop in international cargo and mail was 3.0 and 3.3 percent, respectively.
Over the past ten years, domestic cargo and mail dropped by an average of 6.4 percent annually, while the annual decrease rate over the past five years was 1.1 percent.
On the international cargo and mail scene, there has been an over-all increase of 11 percent annually, or 10.0 percent over the past five years.
