AUG 20, 2004 (newstodate): Finnair is in the midst of its fleet renewal plan, and half of the
airline's fleet has been renewed over the last five years.
One stage of the programme, which began in January 1999 with the acceptance of the airline's first A321 aircraft, will culminate this autumn with the arrival of the 29th Airbus A320 family aircraft.
Finnair a�so recently announced its plan to replace, from September 2005, its current fleet of Boeing MD-82 and MD-83 aircraft, as well as ATR72 propeller aircraft, with Embraer 170 aircraft.
The next stage of fleet investment, from the turn of the decade, will involve the intercontinental fleet now comprising six Boeing MD-11 aircraft on flights to Tokyo, Osaka,
Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and Miami.
In a move to secure its position and capitalise on its intercontinental fleet, Finnair has also announced a major update, from 2005, of its Business Class, including the introduction of lie-flat beds on all MD-11s.
