AUG 06, 2004 (newstodate): Maersk Air's pull-out from the Faroese air market will change conditions for the airfreight business.
-It is difficult to predict what will happen. But as Atlantic Airways, now becoming sole in the market, operates smaller aircraft and will take over the contract for postal services, the remaining capacity to carry airfreight will definitely shrink, says Brunjar Viggosson, Eimskip managing director.
The changed situation could create potentials for a freighter operator to enter the market with smaller freighter aircraft capable of operating at the airport's limited runway.
-It would be a risky business, and succes would hinge on the loyalty from exporters to commit themselves, which has so far never materialised, says Mr Viggosson.
-But if a new airfreight alternative should emerge, it would definitely be interesting and could stand a chance of succes, he says
