AUG 12, 2004 (newstodate): EBRD, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is in talks with Tajikistan over a project to upgrade the country's civil aviation capability.
To enable the country to cope with the lack of capacity to serve the market for civil air transportation, EBRD and the Tajikistan State Air Company are working on a project to rationalise the airline's fleet and replace its ageing Russian-built aircraft with modern aircraft types, says Ken Tanimura, EBRD in London.
According to Mr Tanimura, no definite date for signing an agreement on the project has yet been set.
In Tajikistan EBRD has so far completed two projects for Tajikistan State Air Company including Dushanbe runway repair in 1995, and Khoujand runway repair in 1999, while a project initiated in 2001 for the modernisation of air navigation equipment is still under implementation.
