AUG 26, 2004 (newstodate): The pull-out of Maersk Air's capacity from the routes between the Faroe Islands and Denmark will not leave any void that cannot be filled by Atlantic Airways.
-We could easily add frequencies on our routes to compensate for the shortfall of Maersk Air's Boeing 737 aircraft, and we actually plan to carry the same cabin ULDs on the late evening flights out of Vagar, and the early morning flights out of Copenhagen, says Magni Arge, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-Should the market request even more capacity, we will continue our investigations for a freighter solution. This, however, will depend on achieving commitments from the Faroese exporters to sustain an ecomically viable service, he says.
-Basically there are no limits to what we can provide to the market on the condition that there is a demand, and that the market is willing to pay for the services, says Mr Arge.
On the issue of postal contracts, Mr Arge says the daily mail volumes are easily dealt with on the airline's aircraft, while extensive parcel loads may prove more difficult to accomodate as the airline's three BAe 146-200 do have less cargo capacity than a Boeing 737 aircraft.
