JUL 20, 2004 (newstodate): Thales has landed an order to implement four advanced air traffic management systems at the main regional airports in Iran.
The new systems will provide increased capacity and smoother processing of the growing air traffic in the Iranian airspace. The systems will also offer higher surveillance data integrity which ensures continued safety whilst matching the traffic.
Thales will supply four state-of-the-art approach air traffic management systems comprising its EUROCAT control centre product, a STAR 2000 primary S-band radar co-mounted with a RSM 970S monopulse secondary surveillance radar. The contract will include related training.
The contract builds on the co-operation between the Civil Islamic Republic of Iran and Thales which started in 1997 with the supply of a nationwide Air Traffic Control system dedicated to ensure the complete en-route control of the country. This system included 10 Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radars, two en-route control centres for Tehran and Shiraz, and various navaids and equipment for domestic airports.
Current traffic volumes through Iranian airport comprise approximately three million international passengers and 10 million domestic passengers.
