JUL 21, 2004 (newstodate): Siberia Airlines has announced plans to acquire 50 aircraft of the new Russian Regional Jet, RRJ, family.
According to the agreement signed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Siberia Airlines, delivery of the aircraft will start in 2007.
-We are happy that it is precisely Siberia Airlines, Russia's fastest growing airline, that will become our first customer. This will allow us to fully launch the programme of the new family of Russian regional aircraft in the near future. The scale and the timing of the order underpin the accuracy of Sukhoi's strategy of entering the market of short-haul liners says Mikhail Pogosyn, Sukhoi's general director.
Siberia Airlines currently operates a fleet of 52 aircraft, including 12 Il-86, 38 Tu-154, and two Tu-204. This June Siberia Airlines also added a leased Airbus A310 aircraft.
