JUL 22, 2004 (newstodate): Krasnoyarsk Airport may be developed into a strong cargo hub after the recent signing of a tri-partite agreement.
Behind the new strategy are the Volga-Dnepr Group, the regional authority of Krasnoyarsk, and KrasAir.
Under the agreement, a working group was set up by July 15 to outline a long-term program for regional and international cargo operations via Krasnoyarsk.
The working group will assess the territory's import/export flows, the infrastructure, and the potentials involved for the two airline groups.
The working group will deliver a report to form the basis for a future development strategy and ways to optimise the members' participation in future management.
-The attitude of local administrations is very important for Russian long-term investment projects. Investors, therefore, are eager to see that the region has a long-term development strategy for civil aviation as a whole, and for a cargo hub, in particular. It is also important that the local administration contributes successively to development of transport infrastructure of the region, including the airport, and multi-modal cargo transportation. That is why we made the decision to sign this deal, says Alexey Isaikin, Volga-Dnepr GroupPresident.
-At the same time the final decision whether to build the hub in Krasnoyarsk or not will be made in co-operation with our partners and only after all the technical and economic factors as well as our customers' viewpoints have been taken into account, he says.
(For some readers Krasnoyarsk will remain the place Donald Duck dreamed of, when his world crumbled around him...)
