JUL 30, 2004 (newstodate): Slovenian carrier Adria Airways' cargo volumes stabilised in May, showing early signs of a recovery through the rest of 2004.
-In May the negative trend slowed down, practically coming to a stop. We expect a minor growth during the second half of the year, so that by the end of the year the total volume carried will at least equal to that of the previous year, 3,650 tonnes, says Ljerka Zupancic
Adria Airways Corporate Communications Manager.
-A significant cause of the poorer results is the limited cargo capacity on the small aircraft operated on routes where the demand for freight is greatest. We are a passenger-oriented airline, and we only load freight onto passenger aircraft when there is room available on these, she says.
According to Ms Zupancic, Adria Airways now intends to build up with capacity on freighters through cooperation with other airlines, in addition to increasing the use of road feeder services.
Adria Airways operates a fleet comprising six own CR200 aircraft and three Airbus A320. In addition the airline will lease one CR200 from Danish company Maersk Air.
