JUN 22, 2004 (newstodate): Following on the acquisition earlier this month by TPG of Scandinavian forwarding and logistics provider Wilson Logistics, a strategy for expansion by Wilson into Eastern Europe and Russia may soon be revitalised.
-We did have an own company in Russia until some years ago, but the business was closed down during the difficult period, says Ole Rohmann, Wilson Logistics snr VP.
-During a prolonged period of negotiations with a range of potential buyers of Wilson the strategy was kept on hold. But as conditions have now matured and our future has been settled within the TPG Group, we are ready to monitor the situation again, he says.
Mr Rohmann says markets including Poland, the Baltic states and Russia are attracting much attention and already generating significant business volumes as can be ascertained from Wilson's Wiltrack system.
Wilson's strategy for E Europe and Russia will comprise establishing fully-owned subsidiaries in these markets.
Asked if this might happen within this year already, Mr Rohmann says "I would be surprised if it didn't".
