JUN 25, 2004 (newstodate): On June 23, The EU Commission has adopted new legislation establishing a common definition of critical parts of security restricted areas at EU airports.
The legislation will require airport staff to undergo security screening checks when entering security-sensitive zones of airports.
The new regulations aim at defining what parts of an airport should be deemed as critical to require higher levels of security. All staff entering such security-sensitive areas would be required to be screened.
EU member states now have a maximum of five years to fully implement the regulations.
