JUN 21, 2004 (newstodate): Continental Airlines can expect a strong market response to its new New York-Oslo service that started on June 18.
After SAS has pulled out of the route, Continental is the only provider in the Norwegian cargo market of daily nonstop capacity on the North Atlantic flights.
-Continental has started up a bit cautiously with Boeing 757 aircraft that has a limited cargo capacity at about two tonnes on a full flight. Still we expect to see good results especially in the express segment with Continental's Quick Pack product, and the CMR that guarantees space on the flight, says May Korsell, Kales Air Services, Continental's cargo GSA in Norway.
-We had bookings for ships spares from the very first flight, and in addition to this segment we also see strong interest among Norwegian exporters of fresh salmon to the US market that is picking up strongly after a few years' vacillation, she says.
In Norway Kales counts a total of 33 airline cargo GSA clients, including Air China, Martinair, DAS, Garuda, Pakistan Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
