JUN 01, 2004 (newstodate): The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China has banned chartered CIS cargo planes from landing at four airports.
The ban follows on a series of CIS aircraft accidents and crashes in China, and the CIS aircraft operations will be allowed to resume only after their qualifications are checked in accordance with the international civil aviation convention, the CAAC sources said.
CAAC says that over the past 10 years, the peak handling capacity of CIS carriers at the four airports was about 120,000 tons on 5,840 flights, comprising more than 75 per cent of the airports' total handling capacity.
The airports include Urumqi International Airport, Taiyuan, Tianjin, and Hohhot Airport.
